Introducing Somerset libraries, which is a free service provided by Somerset County Council.
The service is available to anyone who loves reading but is unable to access the library due to long term illness, mobility issues or caring responsibilities.
Reading can really lift mood and spirits and a visit from a volunteer can help ease loneliness.
The way in which the service works is:
When an individual contacts us we will arrange for a volunteer to visit you. They will ask you what you like to read and the best times to visit you, usually on a fortnightly or monthly basis.
The volunteer will choose books based on your preferences and deliver them to you .
Our volunteers can also support you in accessing free-e- book, e – audiobooks and e-magazines. They can provide you with audio books and DVDs for free.
All our volunteers are DBS checked and have provided references and undertaken training.
